Jazariah Marrkula

Jazariah, from Gapuwiyak, was a strong leader in the Marrma’ Rom program. Jazariah made a really positive start to the program and displayed his commitment by declaring he wanted to stay here for three years and graduate in Year 12. Jazariah did this and successfully achieved his goal and graduated in 2017.

Jazariah played football in the U/18 Newtown team and was a valued player each week, usually kicking a goal or two. Although it didn’t happen often enough, Jazariah did join Yirrmal on stage dancing and playing the clapsticks. Jazariah was elected the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Deputy Captain for the 2016 school year. A great opportunity for him to display his leadership traits. After graduating in 2017 Jazariah returned to his home community of Gapuwiyak and worked hard to gain employment. Jaz was a great young fella and made his family proud during his time in the program.
